*COVID-19*
The virus that causes COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) can be spread to others by infected persons who have few or no symptoms. Even if an infected person is only mildly ill, the people they spread it to may become seriously ill or even die, especially if that person is 65 or older with pre-existing health conditions that place them at higher risk. Because of the hidden nature of this threat, everyone should rigorously follow the practices specified in these protocols, all of which facilitate a safe and measured reopening of Texas. The virus that causes COVID-19 is still circulating in our communities. We should continue to observe practices that protect everyone, including those who are most vulnerable.
With Governor Abbott’s announcement that gyms will be permitted to re-open on May 18th (2020), we are currently working hard to make every preparation to do so as safely as possible. This will require some changes to our standard operations, and we ask that you please bear with us as we do our best to make these adjustments.
Knowing how quickly the climate is changing these standards may have to change on the fly, but here is an overview of the the rules we will be implementing immediately.
New Rules for ALL Classes:
- Students will NOT be allowed to attend classes at the dojo unless their lesson fees have been paid up front. Reminder, all lesson fees are to be paid ahead of time, not after the month has started (For example: June 2020 lesson fees are to be paid by end of May 2020).
- Students are to stay home if they feel sick or anyone in their household is sick or feeling sick, or if they have had direct contact with anyone who has either been sick or tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, or any other contagion.
- Students are to practice good hygiene. Coughing/sneezing should be done into their elbow and not into the open air or towards anyone. Hands should be sanitized upon entering and leaving the dojo.
- Masks are encouraged (by state mandate) but are currently only required during any interaction that takes place within six feet.
- Gloves will not be permitted.
- There will be NO physical contact allowed between students or between students and instructors. That means no sparring, grappling, self-defense, or one-steps. Classes will only be allowed to focus on solo drills, basics, and katas.
- Everyone must maintain a distance of six feet apart while inside the dojo. The dojo floor will be marked with an “x” where students are to stand.
- No visitors will be allowed in any classes unless an appointment has been approved and booked by Batson Sensei or one of the other senior instructors.
- Students will not be allowed inside the dojo except during their assigned class times.
- Students will not gather together outside the dojo entrance while waiting to enter the dojo. They must wait in their vehicles until students from the previous class have left before they can enter.
- Extra time may be needed to be allowed for those entering and exiting the dojo, so please be courteous and respectful of everyone.

**Zoom video classes will still be offered for any dues paying student of the Tyler Karate Academy who may not be able to attend in person, for whatever reason.**
Assumption of the Risk and Waiver of Liability
The novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, as well as the subsequent disease it can cause (COVID-19), has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 are extremely contagious and are believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state, and local governments and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing and have, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of groups of people.
The Tyler Karate Academy and the OSMKKF have put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, neither the Tyler Karate Academy nor the OSMKKF can guarantee that you or your child(ren) will not become infected with either SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19. Further, attending the Tyler Karate Academy and/or any subsequent training camps or seminars could increase your risk and your child(ren)’s risk of contracting the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and/or COVID-19.
○ I acknowledge the contagious nature of SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that my child(ren) and I may be exposed to or infected by SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 by attending the Tyler Karate Academy (or subsequent training it sponsors or hosts) and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and death.
○ I understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 at the Tyler Karate Academy (or subsequent training it sponsors or hosts) may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to, Tyler Karate Academy employees, OSMKKF members, volunteers, and program participants and their families.
○ I voluntarily agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury to my child(ren) or myself (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability, or expense, of any kind, that I or my child(ren) may experience or incur in connection with my or my child(ren)’s attendance at the Tyler Karate Academy or participation in class programming including, but not limited to, regular scheduled classes, special seminars, or training "camps" it may sponsor or host.
○ On my behalf, and on behalf of my children, I hereby release, covenant not to sue, discharge, and hold harmless the Tyler Karate Academy, the OSMKKF, its employees, agents, and representatives, of and from the claims, including all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any kind arising out of or relating thereto.
○ I understand and agree that this release includes any Claims based on the actions, omissions, or negligence of the Tyler Karate Academy, the OSMKKF, its employees, agents, and representatives, whether a SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 infection occurs before, during, or after participation in any Club or Federation program.
